Ning Liu, PhD, Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Tulane University School of Medicine’s Clinical Neuroscience Research Center, received a Career Development Award from the American Heart Association. Dr. Liu received the three-year, $231,000 grant to support the project SLC25 as a key metabolic modulator for microglial pro-inflammatory activation after ischemic stroke. The AHA grant program supports promising healthcare and academic professionals in the early stages of their careers. Dr. Liu’s research aims to understand what causes damage to the brain following a stroke or traumatic brain injury and to identify ways to improve outcomes for patients.
