WaveMakers in Medicine

R. Osvaldo Navia, MD, MBA, Chief of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine and the Myrna L. Daniels Chair in Geriatric Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine, presented at a session as part of an elder care advocacy training program in New Orleans. Dr. Navia’s session focused on decision-making capacity and dementia. The session was hosted by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA), a nationally recognized organization dedicated to training public service lawyers. The program is highly respected for equipping young attorneys with the skills needed to effectively represent older adults who require strong legal advocacy. The presentation aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of the complexities surrounding decision-making capacity in individuals with dementia, highlighting both the medical and legal considerations that are critical for attorneys working in geriatric law.
