Heddwen Brooks, PhD, and Katie Hering-Smith, PhD, from Tulane University School of Medicine have been appointed to the board of the American Physiological Society (APS). This appointment recognizes their outstanding contributions and positions them to guide the society’s initiatives on a national level.

Dr. Brooks, professor and chair of the Department of Physiology at Tulane, is a leading expert in renal and cardiovascular physiology. Brooks’ research examines sex differences in hypertension, diabetes, and the immune system. Dr. Hering-Smith is an Associate Professor of Nephrology & Hypertension. Her research is focused on determining the kidney proximal tubule epithelial transport mechanisms that regulate calcium nephrolithiasis in males and females under both physiological and pathophysiological conditions.

Their new roles on the APS board will allow them to influence research, foster collaboration, and promote inclusivity across the field of physiology.
