WaveMakers in Medicine
Tulane Medicine recently made an impact at the 4th AIDS-Mycoses Workshop, showcasing three oral presentations by Jay K. Kolls, MD, the John W. Deming Endowed Chair in Internal Medicine, and professor of medicine and pediatrics; Dora Pungan, a Medical Research Technician in the Tulane Center for Translational Research in Infection & Inflammation; and Ferris Munyonho, a student in the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program.

In addition to the presentations, Tulane’s team participated in a group meeting of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)-funded IMPRINT Consortium Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) working group. The meeting included Dr. Kolls, Pungan, Munyonho, Dr. Trevor Mnguni from the University of Cape Town, and Dr. Rachel Lai from Imperial College, London.

The IMPRINT Consortium is dedicated to addressing the major fungal complications of advanced HIV disease, including cryptococcal meningitis, histoplasmosis, pneumocystis, and talaromycosis. These infections account for over 20% of AIDS-related deaths globally, and the consortium aims to improve their diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
